The liver, spleen, and kidneys are the most commonly injured abdominal organs in blunt trauma. Injuries are graded using the AAST (American Association for the Surgery of Trauma) organ injury scale from Grade I (minor contusion) to Grade V or VI (devastating disruption). Most low-grade solid organ injuries are managed non-operatively with close monitoring in the ICU – avoiding surgery where safe.
